On September 27th (give or take a few days) Nintendo will announce the official price and release date of the 3DS. All we know is that will be release for the end of the 1st quarter next year (before March 2011). I think they would be wise to go with a christmas release this year. What better time to buy a new console for someone than as a gift for christmas? You already KNOW I'm writing Santa this year about it!

I think that would also make since to make it less than the value of the Wii, but a nice $200 price tag would still sound sweet to me...but I'm willing to go as high as $300 for a system of this caliber. Only that faithful day in September will have us talking more about it officially.
Until then, I would like to go over some of the things I would like to see from the 3DS. We already know that there is a graphical improvement over the DS. It's stated that it will be about as powerful as a Gamecube or PS2. The mere fact that there are already some "Nintendo 64" era ports to the console makes me wonder why I should get it for that reason. Everybody got excited over Ocarina of Time being played in 3D, but the game stills looks the same graphically, so why bother? I want to see some more original titles from the 3DS other than 3D added on to the original gameplay. Still, giving the capabilities of the 3DS, I think it will be able to do a lot more, and here are some things I would like to see from it at some point.
1. Very in depth gameplay.
By this, I mean taking advantage of button on the console. A good example of this would be a FPS. Using the analog to move the character around and using the touch screen to look. Also, using the D-pad to switch weapons on the fly and moving the system around to look using binoculars (it will have a built sensor to indicate the position of the 3DS, and is something the DSi can already do) R button to fire, etc, etc. This is nothing new from the FPS camp, but using it to actually measure depth for aiming and moving closer to the camera for things like, say, zooming in with a sniper rifle would be fantastic!
2. Interchangable data.
This can range from the creation of a Mii that can go from 3DS to Wii and so on, to the idea that, once you encounter a player, their data is exchanged with you. This is similar to how some games already operate on DS but on a larger scale. If I race someone in a game, maybe we automatically get added as friends or something. I would like to see DLC for games that you purchase for the console, as well as being able to use DLC from someone. So if I encounter someone who has DLC and I don't, I can still have access to their data, but once I disconnect from online, it's lost.
3. 3D Movies.
One thing that is missing at this time is a library of 3D movies. I can add a movie such as Avatar or The Final Destination that are in 3D on Netflix, but all I get are the 2D DVD versions because Netflix has no guaranteed format to show 3D movies on. Even if I have a 3D TV, they can't guarantee that a market will have it. With the 3DS though, there is a guarantee that it will be in 3D! I would LOVE to see them team up with Netflix to create a built in HardDrive Application that allows you to stream full blown 3D movies from your 3DS. This will give a MAJOR advantage to Netflix over the newly rising Hulu Plus, but also give a Nintendo portable a life beyond just a simple gaming platform.
4. The inclusion of SD data.
One thing that the DSi introduced was the capability to place an SD card into it. This was used to store music on (in AAC format) to then "Play" with in DSi Sound, but you could also store photos on it, data from applications like Flipnote Studio, as well as back up copies of the data on your DSi HardDrive. I would like to see this taken to the next step in the same way the did with the Wii. I felt that the SD card slot was not a useful thing until the decision to make it an addition to the HardDrive. Taking the SD card slot of the 3DS to the point of having game save data on it, as well as full blown applications running it in the same manner as putting a WiiWare title on the SD card of your Wii. This would become very useful because of....
5. The exclusion of media cards.
So far, I have only noticed a single slot on the 3DS. We already know it's going to be backwards compatible to the library of DS games, but unless it uses the same media format (which may be hard to fit something that is essentially twice the data size of a regular DS game into) where will the 3DS games go? Instead of trying to do what the GBA did and make it work with a different media card that still made the old media fit, I propose going where the PSP Go went and create the entire library as an online premise. This way, as long you have the space on either your HardDrive or SD card, you can download as many games as you like to the console without having to carry around a lot of cards. This can also work because the cost of production for a game is lower since there is no packagaing or shipping needed and you can have as many GBs as you want as long as the consumer can place it on the system. This also helps with the streaming of Netflix videos as well.
6. Total backwards compatability
The DSi had a great library of original titles that were like the WiiWare titles. However, it was missing the key element that I thought they would have naturally done since they dropped the GBA slot, include total backwards compatability! The Wii introduced it with the Virtual Console, and the same thing would be a great carry over to the 3DS. How awesome would it be to not only have 3D games and DS games, but for the more hardcore; or nostaglic gamers, to also have GameGear, GameBoy, and Linx games available to download. Nintendo already seems to have a deal with Sega and Atari anbd such in order to get the titles on the Virtual Console. Why not carry the same premise over to the 3DS?
This is all that I can think of at this moment and I will post more if I happen to think of anything else. Although I'm not sure what Nintendo will introduce with the new "format" they hinted at during an interview, but some of these ideas would help carry the console into an era like nothing else.
